How we collect information from you and what we use it for
There are three different ways in which we collect information from you.
The first is very general and not related to personal information. Through cookies (What are cookies?) and tracking, we can tell how many users visit each part of our site and what features are used. We also collect information on how many of our users are using a certain screen resolution or what kind of browser they are using. Using that information, we can change and modify our site to better meet your needs.
The second way we might gather information is through the registration process. This is the information you provide to us by filling out the request more information form as part of the profile of a certain education institution. We collect information during registration for three reasons:
- Using your information, we can send you email messages (if you have opted to receive them) that will matter to you. For example, if you live in Nova Scotia and show an interest in art, we could send you an open house notice for an art school in Halifax. Please note that we never give your email address to anyone. We will send information on behalf of our partners to you only if you opt in to this service.
- Information, like what school you are going to attend or are attending, helps us to make sure we are creating the best possible site for you!
- To help you request more information about certain information from a particular education institution, via request more information forms on our website.
The third way we gather information is through the various advanced searches and tools we use, such as an advanced school search, the advanced scholarship search and the Career Quiz™. Currently, we keep track of how many people have used these services. We may, in the future, contact you, if you have given us consent to do so, regarding the results of those searches and quizzes. We will not disclose the results of those searches or exercises or the information contained within to anyone.
There is an exception to that rule. While we will make every effort to make sure your personal information remains private, we may be compelled by law to reveal your personal information if we are required to by a subpoena, court order, or legal process.
Who can see your personal information
If you register on one of our websites, you provide us with personal information. Only you and qualified EDge employees may view that personal information.
There is an exception to that rule. While we will make every effort to make sure your personal information remains private, we may be compelled by law to reveal your personal information if we are required to by a subpoena, court order, or legal process.
Your control over your personal information in our database
After registering on our websites, you have full access to and control of the information you provided. At any time, you can access this information through the “My Profile” section of “Dashboard”.
Deleting your personal information
You also have the right to the erasure of your data. If you would like to have your personal information completely removed from our database, please contact [email protected] and provide either the email address used to create the account or your username.
The accuracy of the information you provide
The information you provide should be kept as up-to-date as possible. If the information you supplied to us has changed, we invite you to update it at any time through the “My Profile” section of “Dashboard”.
Communication with EDge
If during the registration process you agree to be part of our mail list, we may send you email messages, which will include the StudyingInSwiterland Newsletter, messages from our partners and our own user surveys and announcements. We may track who opens or replies to these messages. If you change your mind about communicating with us through email, you may do so by logging in and managing your communication preferences within “Dashboard” under “My Subscriptions”.
PLEASE NOTE: If one of our partners wants to send a message to the people registered in our database who have opted in to the student network, we send that message on their behalf. We never give them any of your personal information. The only information the partner might receive would be statistics built from our database (for example, the number of students who live in Nova Scotia who are interested in journalism).
What are cookies and how do we use them?
A “cookie” is a small piece of information that a website can store on your computer through your browser (such as Internet Explorer, FireFox, or Google Chrome).
When registering for and using our website, we and/or advertisers on our website will send cookies to your computer. The information stored in our cookies is used to provide you with customized information. This data will not be used in any other way and will be kept in our secure databases.
What this means in plain English is that if you have used a part of our website or a function of our website, we can keep track of that and help to change the content or certain aspects of the website to fit your needs more accurately.
We can also use it to help, in a more general way, to see what requirements our users have in using our websites. Cookies are also used to serve your more relevant advertisements on our website and others across the internet.
Many browsers have tools that can be used to prevent the use of cookies, limit the use of cookies or remove cookies from your computer.
Request Information Form
The information that you supply in the Request Information form will be forwarded to the education institution that you have indicated an interest in.
The education institution may choose to import this information into their own independent databases in order to keep in contact with you beyond your initial inquiry. This might include open house notices, application opportunities, and other kinds of communication sent by mail or email.
If you have supplied a telephone number, the education institution may contact you by telephone.
Mediavine Programmatic Advertising (Ver 1.1)
The Website works with Mediavine to manage third-party interest-based advertising appearing on the Website. Mediavine serves content and advertisements when you visit the Website, which may use first and third-party cookies. A cookie is a small text file which is sent to your computer or mobile device (referred to in this policy as a “device”) by the web server so that a website can remember some information about your browsing activity on the Website.

Mediavine Partners (companies listed below with whom Mediavine shares data) may also use this data to link to other end user information the partner has independently collected to deliver targeted advertisements.
